………………At The Beach!
Made you look :)) Can you imagine if I was going to Broadway Broadway and I just dropped it like that.
Can you even imagine.
Anyway, greetings from sunny Myrtle Beach!! I’ve swum three times already and have been in two different hot tubs. I call that a win. And hey, look at that 3.1, that is exactly a 5K, so, hell yeah, we are doing the damn thing!
And, bad joke aside, I did run at a complex today called Broadway at The Beach. Why Broadway you ask? To be fair, I have no clue. There’s nothing about it that has anything to do with the great white way, though there are a few concert venues. Basically, it’s a loop of shops and restaurants around a man-made lake full of the biggest fish that you can pay $5 to feed, and I will drop at least $30 on them before the week is out.
Today’s run was wholly uneventful, which I’m also taking as a win, though I have to say; some of the boards that make up parts of the boardwalk at this shopping center have rotted, and I made sure to run over where I saw they were nailed into a plank beneath them because I was not about to take a step over a weak 2×4 and end up in said lake with the fish trying to eat me. I saw the headlines in my mind, something about a chubby yank taking a tumble into fish-laden waters. You shan’t catch me there.
I will also say, I have been focusing on my ShowAss™️, and, I have been forcing myself to activate it more in my runs. Meaning, I’m trying to be very mindful of how my foot strikes the pavement and how my leg then pushes off of the ground. It feels like I have a tendency to really rely on the front of my quads and my hips, which is why my poor hip flexors are crying out in agony most days, but these last few runs, I’ve really been trying to activate my backside. I’m noticing a difference! My strides are getting a little longer, and the fatigue isn’t setting in as quickly, so that’s good.
Oh, also also, I noticed today that when I try to run with the rhythm of certain songs, I start doing this thing where I like, take really small almost baby-like steps to sync with the beats, and that feels….bad. Like, really bad 🤣. Like, I can’t run fast enough to have a wide stride, so I end up doing this sort of fast shuffle? So I want to stop doing that. I need to either a) pick a different song or b) accept that I’m not going to hit the stride of the beats and vibe to the song whilst running my own rhythm. Both are totally fine. I also really need to start building this playlist for the damn thing. That’ll be fun.
Alright, that’s all from me today. Nausea’s at about a 7, which I’ll take, though I do notice that it gets a little worse when I’m at like, the 20-minute marker of my run. Wonder why that is.
I want to end on some quippy joke about my equity 10 being over and about how I have to get back to Broadway at The Beach, but honestly, it’s early, and I’ve had but a sip of my decaf so I leave you here. Like this. Sorry. Love you, bye.
